Fly and Cruise to the Polar Circle
A more direct way of reaching the Antarctic Circle
The most extensive of the short cruise itineraries we offer, on the Fly and Cruise to the Polar Circle itinerary, aboard The Ocean Nova, or the luxurious Sea Adventurer, you will travel down as far as the Polar Circle. An excellent option for the more time sensitive traveller, flying from Punta Arenas to King George Island cuts out the Drake Passage, giving you 6 days of exploring the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Peninsula and the Antarctic Circle. Being able to boast that you have visited the Polar Circle is definitely not something many people can say and this itinerary should be considered by those who are looking for that extra special experience.
Punta Arenas, Chile
Your trip will begin in Punta Arenas where you will have time in the morning to visit the town's museums, restaurants and shops. Meet in the afternoon at the official starting point hotel for a welcome dinner and pre-departure briefing.
Fly to King George Island where you will have your first glimpse of the dramatic Antarctica landscapes. Once you have landed you will have the chance to explore the island before being transferred by Zodiac to the ship ready to set sail for the Antarctic Peninsula.
Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands
Keep a lookout for whales and seabirds as you make your way to the striking Antarctic Peninsula. The team of experts will provide insights into the geology, history and wildlife of the region. You will have daily land excursions organised by the ship's team of expedition guides and experts, via Zodiac landings. Each landing is unique and will provide great new sightings and photo opportunities. Excursions could include whale and iceberg searching around Pleneaus Island, a hike to a penguin rookery or a search for a leopard seal colony.
The Antarctic Circle
The aim of the cruise will be to take you across the Antarctic Circle; a once in a lifetime opportunity to reach a remote part of the world that very few people have had the chance to visit before. Home to the midnight sun, Weddell seals and some of the most magnificent ice formations on the continent it's a truly unforgettable area of the planet
Sail Northbound Along the Peninsula
Your program of land excursions will continue as you travel northwards along the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula. More iceberg viewings and wildlife spotting will be on offer, accompanied by relevant information and guiding from the onboard team of experts.
Disembarkation and Fly to Punta Arenas
